Stirring theatrical passion in the belly of black folk by spotlighting black excellence in theatre and other performing arts for the stage

For too many African Americans, theatre is an afterthought or a never-thought. How could such an exquisite, gratifying, and enriching art form be overlooked by a large percentage of our community? There is a false perception that theatre is simply not for black people. That it’s just not what we do.  Yet, the best kept secret is that many popular black TV, film, and music stars — Kerry Washington, Denzel Washington, Audra McDonald, Malik Yoba, Jennifer Hudson, Sean (Puffy) Combs, Joe Morton, Cicely Tyson, James Earl Jones, and Phylicia Rashad to name a few — also act in stage plays. Why? Because they are passionate about it. There’s nothing like performing for a live audience, and there’s nothing like seeing skilled actors perform live.  And for some TV/film actors who have retired their talent from the stage, it’s how they launched their careers. That said, these big names aren’t the only ones doing great work for the stage. There are hosts of other talented faces on and behind the stage to get to know and love. Join BAM-iT! in supporting our artists with your presence at a theatre near you.
